As your child attends SHS, they may convey an interest in becoming Catholic. If, together with the parent, a child decides to receive Catholic Sacraments, we are happy to help the family along with this process. If the child has not yet been Baptized or received any formation in the Faith, the process can vary slightly.
First, in order for a child to become Catholic, one of the parents must be a Catholic. This allows the parent to assist in nurturing the child in living the Faith.
Once all are in agreement about the child moving forward with baptism, First Communion and Confirmation (the Sacraments of Initiation), the child will begin learning how to incorporate the lessons from religion class into his/her daily life. If a child reaches the age of eight or third grade or older, formation of the faith before receiving the sacraments could take up to two years.
An adult may choose to become a member of the Catholic faith by receiving their sacraments through our parish RCIA program. If you are are interested in becoming Catholic and are not a member of our school, please contact our Parish RCIA Ministry for more details.
