The focus will be on activities that will plant the seeds for music competence. Each week your child will participate in a variety of musical experiences to increase tonal memory, pitch matching, and rhythmic ability. These activities will aid in your child’s tonal and rhythmic development.
Music Grade 2-4
Most children at this age like to sing, move to the beat, and play instruments. What a great time to foster a love for music! Musical experiences will be continued to further increase your child’s tonal and rhythmic development. Your child will begin to read simple note and rhythmic notation.
Music Grade 5-6
Let’s put it all together! Your child will continue to build his/her music competence by singing and participating in musical activities.
Music Grade 7- 8
Students in Grade 7, and 8 will spend a significant amount of their time learning theory about the elements of music. These elements are rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color, texture and form. At the end of each unit they are given a written test. There will be much that your child will learn about music and much of it will be achieved through students being actively engaged in musical activity. Activities your child may be part of include: listening, composing, singing, reading music, notation, arranging, improvising, and performing.
