About the Library Program
The Sacred Heart School Library serves as a resource and a place for learning and fun for students and faculty alike. It is our goal to foster a love of reading in every student. Students in PreK and Kindergarten enjoy a story time each week. Stories are chosen to fit the season, classroom subjects, and even just for fun!
In addition to reading stories or novels and library skills lessons, students in grades 1-8 have the opportunity each week to select a book to take home. All books are due back the following week, and may be renewed. Library skills for grades 1-5 are focused on learning more about how a Library is organized, searching a Library catalog, choosing and caring for books, and the Dewey Decimal System. Grades 6-8 are honing their research skills and exploring different literary genres.Remember that our online reference tool Scholastic Go! is always available for students who would like to explore it. Thanks to your generous support of our Scholastic book fairs, we were able to add the Scholastic Go! package of online databases to our library research tools. To try this resource, select Scholastic Go! from the Library menu and click on the link. Passwords will be sent home with students when they have been shown the resource during their library class, or send us an e-mail if your student has lost their password, and we will be happy to send it to you.

Spring Book Fair 2025
May 5th - 9th
Mark your calendars! Our Spring "Under the Sea" Book Fair begins Monday, May 5th, and runs through Friday morning, May 9th.Stop by during school hours or after school (Monday-Thursday) until 4:00pm to find a book for your favorite reader! Or join us for Family Night on Tuesday, May 6th, until 8:00pm, for some crafts, snacks, and undersea fun!
Can't make it in person? Our online shopping will be available at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/sacredheartschool15 - all proceeds benefit our school and classroom libraries.

SHARE THE FAIR!
Scholastic's All for Books program has a new name: Share the Fair!
As always, one of our goals is to ensure as many children as possible receive and have access to books. One of the ways we can do that is through the Share the Fair program, which is run in conjunction with our Book Fair. With your help, the money collected goes to purchasing more books for our library and classrooms, and to put books into the hands of children who do not have any.
During our Fall Book Fair, we raised over $350 to help school libraries in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene! A special thanks to our competition winners: 2nd grade, 4th grade, 6th grade, and Kindergarten for their efforts!Thank you for your donations. Your act of kindness helps bring more knowledge, imagination, and love for reading into the lives of our students and community.

Over 20 years ago, the National Education Association (NEA) decided to do something BIG to get kids excited about reading. They called it NEA's Read Across America. Launched and celebrated annually on Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2, it was - and still is - the largest celebration of reading this country has ever seen.
On March 2nd, 2025, Dr. Seuss would have been 122! We will be celebrating all week with some themed dress-up days for the students and special readings of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories. Last year, students created their own Dr. Seuss characters and enjoyed the stories read by our "mystery readers." Our "March Madness" Chapter Book Champion was The Diary of a Wimpy Kid (one of the most often checked-out series in the Library), and the Picture Book Champion was the classic Green Eggs and Ham! (I am sure Dr. Suess would be pleased!) Which book will win this year?

Thanks to your generous support of our Book Fairs, we are able to continue to subscribe to the Scholastic Go! package of online databases. The following databases are included in this online research tool: The New Book of Knowledge, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Amazing Animals of the World, The New Book of Popular Science, America the Beautiful, and Lands and Peoples. Interactive Atlases and Dictionaries are also included.
