Our Mission:
Sacred Heart School educates children through a quality and challenging curriculum based on Catholic values, encouraging students to grow into spiritual, moral, intellectually curious and socially responsible adults.
“I am blessed to have been able to call Sacred Heart Church and School my “home” my entire life and to share that with my children is an even greater blessing. I am proud that my children receive a faith based education in which our duty to know, love, and serve God is at the forefront of their curriculum. Catholic education is a truly unique experience that invites God into every aspect of their daily routine. I feel good about sending my children to Sacred Heart School. From the warm personal greetings they receive each morning from Father John and Ms. Besheer (even in bad weather!), to the dismissal prayers, I know my children are in a supportive environment that facilitates their growth both spiritually and intellectually.”

In the mid-1800’s, a young Quaker gentleman named Nathan Dunn was a Philadelphia businessman. Through a series of bad financial decisions, Mr. Dunn found himself facing bankruptcy and was excommunicated by the Quaker Meeting. He then went into the Import-Export business, amassing a small fortune in the process. In the era 1837-40, he had John Notman, a local architect, design and build a "cottage" for him on property that formerly was owned by a blacksmith. The Dunn property encompassed 24 acres of land. Although the centerpiece of the property was his one story "Chinese Cottage", the property also boasted a Carriage House. Nathan Dunn died in 1843 and his sister sold the cottage and property to Franklin Levis, a Mt. Holly attorney, who enlarged the home and renamed it "Dunmore". Sometime after the turn of the century, Levis sold the property to Mr. Johnson.
In the early 1940’s, the Johnson estate was purchased for use as a Regional Grammar School. The Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Scranton) were contacted to staff the school. The second floor of the residence was turned into temporary classroom space, while the Sisters took up residence at a second home south of the property. The school was constructed in two phases and was originally named Mt. Holly Regional Catholic Grammar School. The name was later changed to Sacred Heart School. In 1956, the school auditorium was erected.
Like all Catholic schools, Sacred Heart is rich in tradition: tradition of faith, tradition of family, tradition of friends, and tradition of academic excellence. Join us for some of these spectacular celebrations!
Sacred Heart is currently home to approximately 160 students. Each child who enters becomes part of our Sacred Heart School family. All faculty and staff strive to help each child attain academic success, become future leaders, and grow with strong Catholic morals and values.
St. Margaret Mary loved our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament very much. He showed her His Sacred Heart in four visions. In 1920, Margaret Mary was canonized as a Saint of the Catholic Church after thorough investigation into her life, her writings, and miracles attributed to her intercession.
Jesus made 12 promises to St. Margaret Mary, telling her how He would help those who would honor His Sacred Heart.
1. "I will give to My faithful all the graces necessary in their state of life."
2. "I will bring peace to their homes."
3. "I will comfort them in all their sufferings."
4. "I will be their safe refuge against all the snares of their enemies in life, and above all in death."
5. "I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings."
6. "Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy."
7. "Fervent souls shall mount to high perfection."
8. "I will bless every home in which an image of My Heart will be honored."
9. "Tepid souls shall become fervent."
10. "I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts."
11. "Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced."
12. "To all those who receive Communion on the First Friday of the month, for nine consecutive months, I will grant the grace of final repentance."
We believe and trust in the promises our Lord made to St. Margaret Mary and we are blessed to have our school named in honor of the Him. We strive to foster a strong devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our school!
