WHAT’S HAPPENIN’ IN PRE-K 4?!/ OCTOBER 2011
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- All items sent to school MUST have your child’s name in them. Some children do not always recognize their belongings. - School will be closed on 10/10. - There will be a 12:00 pm dismissal for all full day students on 10/19, 10/20 and 10/26. Only EDP children will need a lunch on these days. Pre-K will NOT be participating in Parent-Teacher Conferences at this time. - Our Halloween Party and Parade will be held on Monday, 10/31 – more details to follow. - Picture Day is 10/14 – children must be in full school uniform (yellow logo shirt with navy blue school pants.) - The Book Fair will begin on 10/31. - There will be a School Liturgy on Friday, 10/21 at 8:30 am. All are welcomed to attend. Please consider sending in a non-perishable item for the poor. - There will be a Fire Prevention assembly in the pre-K classroom on 10/6 at 9am. Please speak to your child about the role of a fireman and what he wears – the firemen will be showing the children their equipment and uniforms – some children in the past have been fearful when seeing the fireman in his full uniform. RELIGION - To begin lessons – GOD MADE FRIENDS and HELPERS; GOD MADE ME and MY FAMILY and GOD MADE MY CHURCH FAMILY and CHURCHES. - We will be discussing getting to know Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Elizabeth, guardian angels and Halloween. Bible stories will include Noah’s Ark and beginning Jesus’ Birth. ILA - Our letter people will be Mr Dd, Miss Ee, Mr Ff and Mr Gg. We will use hands-on activities, matching games, art work, poems, puppets and stories to help your children learn these letters. Classroom and bathroom routines, rules and fire safety are reviewed often. Have your child practice hearing and saying their whole name and recognizing their printed name. Young children learn best with repetition – it builds their confidence when they know the answer – LEARNING IS FUN! - We will begin our exciting new reading program called ALL ABOUT ME (voices, pre-k). We will be reading different stories to the children and they will be exploring letters, their sounds, how they make words and tell stories. SCIENCE - We will be working on the four seasons – special emphasis on Fall; the weather; the five senses and good health habits. Our science projects will include HAND-WASHING and OBSERVATION OF OUR TREE. SOCIAL STUDIES - Projects will enhance our studies of Fall; the Bible Stories; Christopher Columbus; Halloween and Fire Prevention Week. We will be discussing voting and will be having a classroom vote to pick our Classroom mascot – Buttons or Bows. WEEKLY READER - Our Weekly Reader Titles are : FIRE SAFETY; FALL; PUMPKINS and ANIMALS. MATH - We will be reviewing numbers 0 and 1 and introducing 2 and 3 – counting objects, sorting, adding, taking away, etc. We will cover basic shapes (circles and squares) and colors (orange and black). Each day we do the calendar – finding out what month it is, what day of that month and what day of the week it is. COMPUTER - The children go to computers in small groups under the direction and supervision of the pre-k staff. The programs used reinforce the skills we are covering in class. ART - Our projects will reflect our studies of the letter people, our numbers and shapes, Fall, Bible Studies, Christopher Columbus, voting and Halloween. Please practice using scissors with your child.
Spanish is taught by Mrs. Taffee. Music is taught by Mrs. Trotter. Physical Education is taught by Mr. Goehringer. Library is taught by Mrs. Martin.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - School will be closed on 11/9, 11/24 and 11/25. - There will be a 12:00 pm dismissal for all full day students on 11/23. - The Holiday Shoppe will begin on Monday, 11/28. If your child will be participating, please make sure he/she has his/her list and money in an envelope labeled with name. - There will be a school Liturgy on Friday, 11/18 – all are welcomed to attend. Please, if able, send in a canned good for the poor. RELIGION - To begin lessons – GOD MADE THE BIBLE AND MUSIC; GOD MADE WATER and GOD MADE FOOD. - We will be discussing our prayers, All Saints Day, Thanksgiving and preparing for Advent. Bible stories will include Advent and the beginning of the Christmas Story. We will also be practicing for our Christmas Play! ILA - Our letter people will be Mr Hh, Miss Ii and Mr Jj. We will use hands-on activities, matching games, art work, poems, puppets and stories to help your children learn these letters. Classroom and bathroom routines, rules and fire safety are reviewed often. Have your child practice hearing and saying their whole name and recognizing the letters in their name, randomly. We will be learning opposites – in/out, etc. We will be continuing our ALL ABOUT ME reading series. Young children learn best with repetition – it builds their confidence when they know the answer – LEARNING IS FUN! SCIENCE - We will be working on the four seasons – special emphasis on Fall; the weather; the five senses and good health habits, particularly good hand washing. Our science projects will include – THE ANATOMY OF WATER; FLOATING and SINKING. We will begin mixing colors (red and yellow make orange) and taking nature walks looking for falling leaves. SOCIAL STUDIES - Projects will enhance our studies of Fall; the Bible Stories; All Saints Day, Thanksgiving and Voting for our Class President – Buttons or Bows. WEEKLY READER - Our WEEKLY READERS will be THANKSGIVING; HIBERNATION; FIVE SENSES and TRANSPORTATION. MATH - We will be reviewing numbers 0 through 3 and introducing 4 and 5 – counting objects, sorting, adding, taking away, etc. We will cover basic shapes (triangles) and colors (brown). Each day we do the calendar – finding out what month it is, what day of that month and what day of the week it is. COMPUTER - The children go to computers in small groups under the direction and supervision of the pre-k staff. The programs used reinforce the skills we are covering in class. ART - Our projects will reflect our studies of the letter people, our numbers and shapes, Fall, Bible Studies, the Saints and Thanksgiving. Please practice using scissors with your child.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - School will be closed on 12/26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and Jan 2. - There will be a 12:00 dismissal for all full day Pre-K students on 12/16 and 12/23(no EDP on 12/23). - Our Christmas Play was a big success!! We would like to thank all the parents for their help and contributions – it made for a very exciting and fun day for the children! - Santa will be visiting Pre-K on 12/15. - There will be a school liturgy on 12/16 at 8:30 am – all are welcomed to attend.
