Favorite Authors

There are two great ways to become a good reader... One is to read and the other is to be read to! On this page you will find some of my favorite authors. Throughout the school year we will be doing author studies about these authors.

Todd Parr

Todd Parr is the author of numerous books that dicuss families, reading, differences in people, and every day things that are important to young children.  His fun language and colorful illustrations make his books a first grade favorite.

Leo Lionni

Leo Lionni is the author of many stories, including "Frederick," "Swimmy," and "A Color of His Own."  All of his stories have powerful messages that reach children at their level and are a pleasure to read and re-read.  He is one of my favorite authors.

Eric Carle

Eric Carle is a treasured childhood favorite!  His books like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "The Grouchy Ladybug" are fun for children to read over and over but are also full of rich language, interesting animals, and new vocabulary.  He is definitely a springtime favorite.

Jan Brett

Our Jan Brett author study will be in January.  Her beautiful borders around the pages of her stories, including The Hat, The Mitten, and The Gingerbread Baby, allow children to make predictions connected to the text and use pictures to tell the story even before they can read the words.

Mo Willems

Mo Willems is the creator of some of the funniest children's books out there.  The children LOVE to read the different feelings and voices of the pigeon and the characters in his stories.  Mo Willems' books are great for fluency practice and the children laugh every time they read them!
